mentridaWe are a small winery situated in Méntrida, a village well known for its wine producing history. The area gives name to the Denomination of Origin North West of the Toledo Province: D.O. MÉNTRIDA.

The cellar forms part of a family house, the oldest part of the house being a hand carved cave dating back to the 17th century in which our ancestors made wine in big clay jars.

The current project run by José Benavides Jimenez–Landi and Daniel Gómez Jiménez–Landi dates back to 2004, the sole objective being to produce wines made with respect for the environment, tradition and maintaining a balance with our surroundings. It is precisely the conviction that nature offers the best of itself when it is cultivated respectfully that led us to cultivate ecological agriculture on the 27 hectares of land that we own, and to a initiate ourselves in biodynamic practices. The fruits obtained express the characteristics of the soil, climate, earth and the sky.

Our work centres on the Grenache grape, which is the most important variety in the D.O Méntrida, without excluding other varieties that can complement it, such as Syrah.

Our production philosophy consists of reflecting the characteristics of our terrain, seeking elegance and balance in the wines.

sotorrondero 2008

Sotorrondero is a wine that comes from various vines found in the municipal area of Méntrida. It is a wine that represents, therefore, the identity of a town.

The plots are situated in terrains of sandy-clay of granite origin at an altitude of between 500 and 600 metres. They are all planted with the traditional system “in basins”.

In the Pedromoro area we have four vines planted in the year 2000: Viña Vieja (3 hectares), Mazantini (2 hectares), El Llano (3 hectares), and El Llanillo (1 hectare).

The old Grenache vines are between 40 and 70 years old and are found in the areas of Sotorrondero (0.8 hectares), La Cuesta de la Reina (1.2 hectares) and Valdehiguera (0.6 hectares).

Although they are not used for the Sotorrondero wine, we also have recently planted vines in the La Dehesa del Caño area: Bajondillo (2.8 hectares), El Cristo (5 hectares), and Pico Federico (1.3 hectares).

pielago 07

Like Sotorrondero, Piélago is another wine that represents the identity, the expression of a town, in this case that of El Real de San Vicente.

In the Sierra de San Vicente, we have 8 small plots with altitudes of between 700 and 850 metres and different exposures. All of them together make up a total of 7.3 hectares. The vines were planted on siliceous soils of granite origin and their ages are between 40 and 70 years.

Given its altitude, the vines of the Sierra de San Vicente have a special microclimate, with extreme temperature changes between night and day, which enable us to grow a grape that retains the freshness and the elegance of the Grenache variety.  In 2007 we started to use biodynamic agriculture in search of the authenticity of this great terroir.
