CHÂTEAU BÉARD LA CHAPELLE, FRANCK MOUREAU, SAINT ÉMILION GRAND CRU

Chateau Béard la Chapelle is an 18 hectare estate, located in the village of Saint Laurent-des-Combes, at the Eastern edge of Saint Emilion Grand Cru AOC. The property is currently run by Franck and Laurence Moureau, continuing in the footsteps of their father Richard Moureau, who modernised the estate in 1980’s. Franck, who oversees the winemaking is also looking after the vineyards, where he works as naturally as possible, encouraging the biodiversity in the clay and limestone rich soil. The yields are lower than required by the appellation law and the emphasis is on the quality of the raw material. Beard la Chapelle wines are vinified in traditional Bordelaise way, with gentle pumping over and frequent racking. The élevage takes place in mix of new and used oak barrels and the wines display balance between the supple, violet scented blackberry fruit and refined spice.

LS JARDINS D´EDINA
NEW  LES JARDINS D’EDINAOLIVIER RIVIERE, BORDEAUX, CÔTES DE BOURG

We have grown used to thinking of Olivier Riviere in context of Spain, which became his adopted home for nearly two decades. His pioneering work and captivating range of terroir driven wines created during this time, changed how we view and think of Rioja today.

In recent years, apart from consolidating his project in Spain around the village of Cárdenas (La Rioja), Olivier also bought some 15 hectares of vines in Bordeaux, AOC Côtes de Bourg. This new venture has been named Jardin d’Edina (after his daughter).

The vineyards which are in conversion to biodynamic viticulture are mostly planted to Merlot, but in not distant future Olivier also plans to make room for Cabernet Franc and Malbec.

The first wine released comes from two distinctive types of soil: sandy gravel (vinified in concrete tank) and calcareous clay (in used barrels). Having witnessed his talent unravel over the years, we are very excited and have no doubt this new “garden” will flourish under Olivier’s watchful eye!

CROIX –MOUTON
CHÂTEAU CROIX – MOUTON,
BORDEAUX SUPÉRIEUR

Château Croix Mouton is situated in the commune of Lugon, on the edge of Fronsac, within the boundaries of the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation. The estate is owned by Jean-Philippe Janoueix who has acquired it in the mid ‘90s, and over the years managed to excel in making impressive, modern style claret.

The 70 hectares he owns are mostly planted to Merlot (92%), Cabernet Franc (7.5%), Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, with the average age of the vines being 37 years old. A classic right bank mix of alluvial clay and limestone dominates the soil and the proximity of the misty Dordogne river makes its imprint on the terroir. All Croix-Mouton vineyards are sustainably managed with regular ploughing, controlled grass growth between the rows and green harvest, which allows for moderate yields and optimal ripeness.
The 2018 vintage of Chateau Croix Mouton is made with 97% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Petit Verdot. It is medium to full bodied in style, reflecting the sunny 2018 vintage, yet with certain degree of finesse and freshness of the herbal nuances. The generous fruit it displays, seems to be in perfect harmony with well-integrated oaky flavours.

VIGNOBLES MIO
NEW  VIGNOBLES MIO –  CHATEAU CANON LA FORETBORDEAUX SUPÉRIEUR

The Mio family established itself in the right bank mid 70’s. Mario used to work at the most prestigious Pomerol estate for 25 years.  In 1975, he decided to produce his own wine and bought an old house with a piece of land to start with.  His director in Pomerol lent him gracefully some equipment to start making wine.  His grand child Cedric now run the family estate.

VIAUD LALANDE

CHÂTEAU DE VIAUD - LALANDE, LALANDE DE POMEROL

Chateau Viaud Lalande is a small-scale venture of the Durand – Teyssier family who have been making wine in the village of Puisseguin, appellation of Lalande de Pomerol, for three generations.

1.5 hectares of vineyards adjoining the Chateau were planted by Philippe Durand – Teyssier back in the 60’s. Typically for the region, those are mostly Merlot and Cabernet Franc well suited to the local, clay dominated soils.

Since 2007 Philippe has handed over the wine making and the day-to-day running of the property to his son Thomas. Having previously worked in prominent 1er and Grand Cru Classé estates in Saint Emilion (Château Belair, Château Cadet Bon), Thomas is continuing family tradition, with clear focus on quality. Annual production: 9000 bottles.

LE PAYRAL
BIO.png

CHÂTEAU LE PAYRAL, AOC BERGERAC

Chateau Le Payral is made up of 30 hectares divided into three “islands” located on the limestone hilltops on the south bank of the river Dordogne - at the doorway to the vineyards of Bordeaux. Since 2005, the whole property is managed following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. Subsequently the work in the winery is carried out with utmost care. Indigenous yeast which carries out the fermentation and small doses of sulphur used, allow for the full expression of the terroir. The wines are beautifully textured and remain true to the land they come from. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

DOM LA CALMETTE
BIO.png

DOMAINE LA CALMETTE, MAYA SALLÉE & NICOLAS FERNANDEZ, CAHORS (TRESPOUX – RASSIELS)

With only a few vintages under their belt, Maya and Nicolas of Domaine La Calmette are exactly the kind of young vignerons we like to discover. They met while studying agronomy and oenology and quite early on knew that they want to make wine together. Starting in 2016 with just one hectare of Malbec, they have chosen to settle in Cahors and buy more plots in Trespoux – Rassiels – an elevated plateau towards the south – eastern edge of the appellation with mosaic of soil made of Kimmeridgian limestone and iron rich clay. Unlike in the fertile, alluvial valley of the Lot river, here at altitude of 350 metres above sea level the nights are cold and the days hot, which gives the wines precise features: exuberant aromatics and very fine-grained tannins. This allows the signature grape of Cahors – Malbec to express itself differently. The 7 hectares of Domaine La Calmette are farmed biodynamically, with nearly all of work done manually. Maia and Nicolas adapt light-handed approach towards the winemaking (wild fermentation, minimal SO2 and a patient élevage). Those are wines made with a lot of attention, love, and respect for the vineyards. Juicy and fresh, with ripe, healthy fruit and a strong mineral backbone – a contemporary, less rustic interpretation of Malbec, full of youthful energy and verve – just like the couple who makes them.

clos lapeyre

CLOS LAPEYRE, JEAN BERNARD LARRIEU, JURANCON

This family farm was traditionally dedicated to mixed farming with livestock, orchard fruits and grapes which were taken to the local cooperative.

However, in the early 1970’s the Larrieus were the first in the region to replant their vines on the steep, amphitheatre – shaped terraces facing to the Pyrenees. This move ensured much better exposure to the sun while the elevation contributed to the freshness in the resulting wines. From 1985 onwards, the estate changed over exclusively to viticulture and Jean Bernard Larrieu gradually took full control, farming his own vines and making, and bottling his own wine. He follows a biodynamic approach throughout his 17 hectare estate, aiming to make wines which are true to the land, with as little intervention as possible.
