FÈLSINA SPA SOCIETÀ AGRICOLA, CHIANTI CLASSICO, CHIANTI
Fattoria di Fèlsina is widely regarded as one of the iconic estates of Chianti Classico—a reference point for what traditional Tuscan wine can be at its highest level. Its modern history began in 1966, when Domenico Poggiali acquired the 500-hectare property in Castelnuovo Berardenga, the southernmost part of Chianti Classico. At that time vines occupied only 6 hectares with olive trees and cereals dominating. Right from the start Domenico and his son Giuseppe began planting the vines with one clear goal: to uncover the potential of Sangiovese grown on variety of soils and terrains. Decades of research into this unique grape variety and it’s propagation by massal selection resulted in wines that are pure and authentic. Viticulture is careful and site- specific, with attention to biodiversity and soil health. In the cellar, the approach is traditional: fermentation and aging are designed to respect the grape and reveal terroir rather than obscure it.
Today, the Poggiali family continues to guide the estate, maintaining a clear philosophy. Figures like Giovanni Poggiali (the grandson of Domenico) and his uncle Giuseppe Mazzocolin continue the path of tradition. Fèlsina stands out for its consistency, cultural depth and a ‘near-monastic’ dedication to Sangiovese as a true expression of place.
